Misha Man Celebrates 1 month!

This post marks the last weekly update of the Misha Man series.  From here on out, we are rolling at a month to month basis.

Yet again, Misha's fourth week of life was an eventful one!  The family train continued as Mike's parents arrived on a sunny Wednesday afternoon.  They were ecstatic as they missed an earlier opportunity to drive northwards due to a bad cold.  Misha took to his grandparents instantly.

Before the grandparents arrived, I had a couple days alone with Misha while Mike was working.  We went on several long walks to local coffee shops and parks.  I am absolutely in love with my BOB stroller- as is Misha.  It is heaven on wheels.

As Mother's Day weekend approached, a rumor spread that another Vasich might make his way up to the Twin Cities.  All were doubtful that Mike's youngest brother and his girlfriend would actually make the 12 hour drive from Bloomington, Indiana...all except Mike who knows the effect of a hardy challenge on a Vasich man. Mike said, "I am not going to rule it out."  (I think I can fairly add "or woman" to this statement as there is a certain Vasich woman (me obviously) who takes challenges seriously.  For example, "it took the last mom nine pushes to get the baby out.")  Anyway, low and behold, Paul the youngest brother made it to Minneapolis (at three am Friday night) so he could see his first nephew before he got too big.  We were all touched- Misha especially!

We celebrated Mother's Day with our dear friends and neighbors who had their first baby in December.    The brunch was a team effort- frittata, hashbrowns, bacon, fruit salad, greens salad, tasty treats from a local bakery, and a shoofly pie baked by Carol.  This was a special treat for me as I grew up eating shoofly pie every summer with my grandparents in Pennsylvania.  The molasses treat is a Pennsylvania Dutch classic.  Our friends brought homemade bloody mary mix and fixins to share.  We had quite a spread!

To top off the weekend, we opened the 1983 bottle of port that Milt bought Mike for our wedding day.  The port was from Mike's birth year.  When we received the bottle, we decided to keep it until the birth of our first baby.  This weekend seemed to be the perfect occasion.  Milt and Carol had also received a bottle of port from Milt's birth year on their wedding day thirty-five years ago.  I asked Milt if they had drank it yet.  Milt said that he was able to have a sip of the port.  When prompted, Milt explained that they didn't select a specific time to drink the port and sadly Greg broke the bottle while playing in the basement.  Finding the mess, Milt noted that there was a splash of port resting in a glass fragment. So, he drank it.

We enjoyed the 1983 bottle with leftover shoofly pie, lemon birthday cake (for Misha!), and other collected desserts from the weekend.  Milt logically suggested that we buy a bottle of 2013 port now for Misha's wedding day.  All agreed that this was a financially sound idea.
