Coming Up For Air (finally!)
Are you someone that gets cliches messed up? I do this frequently. The name of this post was "Coming Up For Water" until I remembered that I am not a mermaid and I actually need to breathe to survive. Sometimes, I need to be reminded of this.
Anyway, my loyal readers, you must be wondering what's been up in these parts. Well, let me tell you, time never slows down. Here's a glimpse into the state of affairs in our household:
1. Our garden: Last summer, I experienced overwhelming anxiety at the idea of breaking ground. So much so, in fact, that I decided not to plant anything. This year, Mike stepped on board (again, another example of messed up cliche: hopped on board or stepped up to the plate...) and joined the team (okay, so stepped up to plate would work better here...duly note: Math, not English, was actually my favorite subject as a school kid). Turns out, we are a great team and we have already accomplished more gardening x100 than last year.
Transplants include:
tomatoes
cherry tomatoes
broccoli
cauliflower
kale
swiss chard
mint
basil
peppers
mixed flowers in pots
Direct seed includes:
carrots
beets
snow peas
wild flowers
sunflowers
cosmos
We shall see what actually comes up! Mike is in charge of watering and I am in charge of motivation and directions and planning. Like I said, we are a great team.
2. Dinners lately: We have had some great dinners as of late. The menu has included grilled chicken with a yogurt based marinade, angel haired pasta with shrimp, pinto and brown rice burgers, and soba noodles with grilled tofu, red cabbage, and edamame. I have also gotten into a better habit of having a non-alcoholic mojito with fresh mint from our garden, lime, and diet tonic. Thanks Rebecca!
3. End of The Year Moments: School is really wrapping up. We have two teaching days left! I have been chronically exhausted for a while. Yesterday, I fell asleep about two minutes after finishing a diary queen heath bar blizzard. Like literally- spoon left mouth into empty cup...head fell on Mike's shoulder....eyes closed...sleep. YET, I need to acknowledge how much I LOVE this time of year. I am so proud of my students. Chronically proud. I want to think of some way to make these last two days of school really special. Any ideas?

Oh, I love this whole post! Your garden sounds wonderful and so, of course, does the non-alcoholic mojito!
